Catalonia.health participates in the European Health Summit to address the role of AI in European health policies

Marta Herrera,

This week, Arantxa Sanz, CEO of Catalonia.health, participated in the European Health Summit in Brussels for the fireside chat "AI and Public Policy: Toward a New Architecture of Influence", alongside Carlos Parry Lafont, European Healthcare Lead at LLYC, and Ibo Sanz, Chief Strategy Officer at LLYC.

The session, organized by The European Business Summits, addressed a reality that is already reshaping the regulatory landscape: artificial intelligence is not a neutral intermediary—it interprets, adapts, and influences how stakeholders understand European health policy and regulation.

LLYC presented a comparative study analyzing over 1,484 AI-generated responses across four major EU health regulations, revealing significant disparities: healthcare professionals receive more rigorous answers while patients and media often get simplified information; Western Europe accesses more consistent responses than Eastern Europe; and alarmingly, 30% of responses include no references while only 10% cite official EU sources.

From discovery to regulation: AI is already transforming the sector

During her intervention, Arantxa Sanz shared insights on how AI is being integrated across the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors—from discovery with tools like AlphaFold to drug screening and validation, clinical trial optimization, and supply chain management, and how the quality of original data sources is key in the usefulness and reliability of results.

The conversation emphasized the importance of understanding AI's role as an actor that shapes the perception of public health provision and regulations, and the need to ensure that the information guiding policy decisions can be trusted, equitable, and strategically useful—especially now in December 2025, with very relevant policy in the making, such as  EU Biotech Act, Critical Medicines and the reform of pharmaceutical legislation.

Participating in high-level forums like the European Health Summit reinforces Catalonia.health's commitment to internationalizing and projecting the Catalan health ecosystem on the European stage. These strategic conversations allow us to position our ecosystem as a key interlocutor in the debates shaping the future of health policy, innovation, and public-private collaboration across Europe.

Those who understand AI's influence on regulatory perception—and contribute to shaping it—will be best positioned to lead, innovate, and drive the future of healthcare in Europe.
